Our Commitment
From the first stakeholder conversation through the new leader's first six months on the job, we're here for you.
Our Process
Redbone Recruiting provides full-service executive search. Every step below is led personally by Karla.
Phase 1
Before we source a single candidate, we make sure we fully understand your organization, your culture, and exactly who you need.
In-depth interviews with board members, staff, community partners, and funders — in person whenever possible — to fully understand culture, team dynamics, and leadership priorities.
All stakeholder input synthesized into a thematic summary, presented to the Search Committee, and used to form the candidate profile and evaluation criteria.
We review and reframe the job description based on market data and stakeholder input, and provide guidance on building a competitive compensation package.
Developed in partnership with the Search Committee — articulating required qualifications, leadership competencies, core values, and cultural attributes.
Phase 2
We get the opportunity in front of the right people, vet thoroughly, and bring your committee a curated shortlist — not a stack of resumes.
Multi-channel outreach spanning national nonprofit platforms, regional networks, and sector associations — including targeted direct outreach to leaders who aren't actively looking.
Every presented candidate completes a 3–4 hour screening process and an in-person interview with Karla before being advanced.
Custom interview questions and scoring rubrics co-developed with the Search Committee to ensure fair, mission-aligned evaluation of every finalist.
Comprehensive preliminary interviews conducted with top candidates. Detailed profiles and summaries presented to the committee, with third-party skills assessments for the final 2–3 candidates.
Phase 3
We support the final decision, negotiate the offer, and stay engaged through the first year — because a successful placement doesn't end on day one.
Professional references conducted on all finalists, assessed across leadership, fundraising, culture-building, and community engagement.
Salary negotiation and offer letter preparation supported by Karla, with ongoing engagement through the candidate's first year of employment.
At Redbone, you're not just a client. You're a valuable member of the nonprofit community doing life-changing work in San Diego. We understand your work isn't easy because we're right there with you volunteering, sitting on boards, and making donations to ensure our community stays strong.
We know the recruiting industry has its fair share of challenges. That's why we promise to always act with integrity and in the best interest of your organization and our community.
We'll take the time to get to know you and your organization, understand your goals, and treat your team and candidates with the care and respect you deserve. You can count on us to answer questions, provide honest feedback, timely communication, and most importantly, match you with a senior leader who will shape your organization for years to come.
